Candle Care 101: A guide to proper candle care.

We love everything about candles. From the scent, color and the energy they create. All of these reasons to love candles, are also reasons to extend the life of a candle. Extending the life cycle of a candle begins with proper care. This guide provides basic candle care and maintenance.

Wax Has a Memory

Oh yes, wax does has a memory. Letting it puddle on the first burn will start a tunnel. Tunneling  is when the wick burns straight down the center of a candle without creating a full melt pool.

Melt Pool

A melt pool means that the wax has been heated long enough to reach the edge of the container. This usually happens in about 1-2 hours. A full melt pool should be 1/8-1/4 inch deep. This allows the fragrance to disperse completely into the room.

Wick Trimming

We suggest trimming your wick before each burn. Trim the wick to 1/4 of an inch before relighting.

Use A Wick Trimmer

Use a wick trimmer for a precise trim. Our wick trimmers are easy to use and maintains the wick. A well maintained wick will ensure a clean burn time. This also helps avoid soot and smoking and ensures and even flame.

Burn Time or Burn Rate

Burn time is of course, the time the candle burns. Do not let your candle burn for more than 4 hours. This could case the wick to mushroom. And then it becomes hot and the wax may overheat. Extinguisher the flame, let it cool for 2 hours and then you can light the candle again.

How to Store Your Candle

Store your candle in a cool, dry, dark place, and away from direct sunlight or intense light. Keeping it in a dark place will protect it from fading and discoloration. The candle wax and fragrance oils we use in our candles are sensitive to both temperature and light.

Store candles between 50°F and 85°F.

Do not leave candles in your car for an extended period of time( especially on hot days) they may melt or discolor. Candles may crack or separate if left in extreme cold. If exposed to extreme cold, allow the candle to return to room temperature for 2 hours. This will minimize damage.

SAFETY TIPS:

Do not burn candles near drafts, other heat sources or anything flammable.

Keep burning candles out of reach of children and pets.

Never leave a burning candle unattended.
